cairn

/ kern /

A cairn is a stack of stones built by hand, placed by travelers to mark a path through wild country. Each person who passes adds a stone of their own. The stack grows quietly over time — no single builder, no single moment — until it becomes something that outlasts all of them. A landmark. A signal. A sign that says: someone who loved this place was here before you.

We thought it was a perfect name for what we're building.

Not a photo app.
A family atlas.

Your camera roll has thousands of photos and no story. No one captured what your daughter said when she first saw the ocean. No one recorded what you were thinking at the Trevi Fountain when you wished your kids were there.

Cairn Memories captures the context around the moment — the weather, the feeling, the words — and preserves it for the people who matter, to be opened when the time is right.

01

Capture without interruption

Cairn runs quietly in the background. Location, weather, flight details, dining — all gathered automatically. You only touch it when something matters enough to put into words.

02

Written to someone

Every note, every photo, every voice recording can be addressed to a person — a child, a grandchild, a group. Private until a date. Unlocked at a place. Delivered across time.

03

A living record, not a static archive

Trips accumulate layers. Your grandmother's Florence becomes your parents' Florence becomes yours. The same place, different decades. One continuous thread of love across generations.

Places that belong
to your family.

Every time someone in your family visits the same place, they add their own layer to the record. The café in Paris your grandfather visited in 1962 becomes something extraordinary when four generations have each left something there.

1962

Café de Flore, Paris

"The coffee was extraordinary. I sat for two hours and thought about what I wanted my life to become. I hope you find a place like this someday."

Harold, age 34
1989

Café de Flore, Paris

"Dad wrote about sitting here. I found it. The coffee is still extraordinary. I cried a little, which felt right."

Susan, age 31
2024

Café de Flore, Paris

"My grandmother found this place because her father wrote about it. I came because she did. Emma — if you ever make it to Paris, you'll know exactly where to go."

Michael, age 38
20??

Waiting for Emma.

Her layer hasn't been added yet. But when she arrives — and she will — four generations will converge at a single table in Paris.

Her turn

For anyone who loves across time.

Young parents

Your child won't remember their first beach, their first flight, the way they grabbed your hand at the zoo. You will. Cairn helps you give those memories back to them when they're ready to receive them.

✈️

Older travelers

Newly free to go anywhere, and thinking of the people you left at home. Leave a record of who you were when you were out in the world. Let your children know you thought of them from somewhere beautiful.

📖

Families who revisit

The beach you've gone to every summer. The city your parents loved. Some places belong to a family across generations. Cairn gives those places a memory of their own.

"I would have loved to have had my parents capture that — to know where they were, what made them happy, that they were thinking of me."
The feeling that made us build this

More than photos.

Ambient capture

Location, weather, elevation, sunrise times, flight details, drive routes — gathered automatically in the background without interrupting the moment.

Voice notes

Record in your own voice, preserved forever alongside the transcript. Hearing a grandparent describe a place is irreplaceable in a way text never is.

Letters to someone

Write directly to a specific person. Private to everyone else. Readable only by them — on a date, at a place, or whenever you decide the time is right.

Smart prompts

Context-aware questions that surface at the right moment: after a long drive, at a restaurant, on the last evening. Never intrusive, always meaningful.

Time & location locks

A memory that unlocks on your child's 21st birthday. A note that appears only when they return to that beach. Moments delivered at the moment they matter most.

Retroactive trips

Already have photos from that trip years ago? Build the record now from what you have — Cairn fills in weather, world context, and historical detail automatically.
