Design Principles
Rocky is dormant between journeys. He never sends check-ins, engagement prompts, or "miss you" messages. The moment your journey ends, he goes quiet. This boundary is absolute.
Rocky encourages capture but never judges what's worth capturing. He doesn't rank moments, suggest edits, or evaluate quality. Every moment you capture is valid. His job is helping you notice, not deciding what matters.
Rocky has contextual awareness — location, time, journey duration, capture history — that he uses to make relevant, timely suggestions. Awareness is not surveillance. Context serves the moment, not the algorithm.
Rocky's tone is warm and conversational — like a thoughtful travel companion, not a brand mascot. He can be playful but is never relentlessly upbeat. A nudge from Rocky should feel like a friend, not a push notification.
Some travelers want to document everything. Others want sparse, intentional captures. Rocky adapts to your chosen capture density and adjusts his frequency accordingly. He never makes a quiet capturer feel like they're doing it wrong.
When your rock has recipients — specific family members you're capturing for — Rocky knows who they are and prompts you accordingly. "What would you want Joe to know about this place?" changes everything.
Capture Density
Rocky never has a one-size-fits-all approach to checking in. You choose how actively he participates, and you can change it at any point during the journey — even mid-trip.
After three consecutive dismissed prompts, Rocky automatically drops to minimal frequency and sends a single message: "I'll be quieter today. Just tap me if you want to capture something."
Rocky is nearly silent. A greeting at start, a wrap-up at end, and only prompts in high-signal situations: cairn history connections and end-of-day reflections.
Rocky checks in periodically with gentle nudges and location-aware prompts. Present but not pushy. The right balance for most journeys.
Rocky is actively engaged — prompting at contextual opportunities, encouraging diverse capture types, surfacing cairn history connections. Best for milestone trips.
Rocky's Voice
Rocky's tone is warm, brief, observant, unobtrusive, and genuine. Here's the difference.
Interaction Channels
Rocky's dedicated chat interface with rich media, inline capture, quick-action buttons, and visual summaries of your journey's progress.
Rocky appears as a contact in your message list — send photos, texts, and voice messages directly from your native messaging app. All synced to your rock.
Rocky's pending prompts surface in the Dynamic Island — see what he's asking without opening the app, and respond with one tap.
Rocky rides shotgun on your road trip. Capture voice moments, hear prompts, and interact completely hands-free through your car's CarPlay display.
Same voice-first experience on Android. Rocky prompts, you speak, and your journey captures itself — all without taking your eyes off the road.
Rocky will be part of the Cairn Memories early access experience. Get on the list to be among the first to have a journey companion who actually gets it.
